However, the VA sets the qualification guidelines for VA loans and determines which lenders can issue them. Since VA loans are backed by the VA, lenders face a lower risk of default and are likelier to approve mortgage applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since VA loans do not meet the guidelines for conventional mortgages set by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, they are non-conforming loans.
